In honor of Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day, I wanted to share a few bits with you:
Did you know Women’s History Month started as Women’s History Week?
Today, more women than men graduate college, women enter the workplace at 50/50 and nearly half of working women are the primary breadwinner of the family. On the flip side, we are still lacking when it comes to breaking the glass ceiling. Studies show that we don’t have a lot of women in the boardroom.
We still have a gender wage gap (one that widens the gap for minorities). Most companies don’t have or are scrambling to change paid maternity leave policies. Not to mention, there is no mandatory paid maternity leave law and Congress is made up of only about 20% women.
Think about this. When we achieve gender parity, it’s not only women who win. Men, businesses and the economy also win.
The theme this year is “Visionary Women: Champions of Peace & Nonviolence”. This theme honors “women who have led efforts to end war, violence, and injustice and pioneered the use of nonviolence to change society”.
I’m paying homage to those women by wearing this sweatshirt because we are Legendary! But the ultimate salute goes to Harriet Tubman who led slaves to freedom by formulating the underground railroad. Now that’s a BOSS! I can’t wait to wear my hoodie as seen here on Insecure. I love a good culture tee or sweatshirt.
Who are you paying homage to this month?
