I'm always on the hunt for a new restaurant with a swanky vibe. On this particular night I took a chance with a friend and went to Brewery Bhavana located in Moore Square in downtown Raleigh. In my black Marshall's turtleneck ($6.99), black J. Brand distressed jeans, black Frye boots and denim jacket, and with no reservation we stepped in this brewery thinking #issavibe. Most would think it's just a brewery and dim sum restaurant but no. It's a flower shop, and a bookstore. The wait was about two hours but it really didn't matter to us because they had a full service bar with marble backgrounds, specialty cocktails (the Spicy Green Margarita was amazing) and several beers on tap.
What I loved most was the array of books from poetry, history and fiction. After flipping through the Hip Hop Yearbook, purchasing a t-shirt and smelling a few flowers, it was time to eat! I had studied the menu earlier in the day but asked the waitress for recommendations. I decided to stick with my gut and ordered the Seafood Dumpling as an appetizer and Shrimp Lo Mein. I have to say the Seafood Dumpling (lobster, shrimp, scallop and cabbage) served in a garlic and black mushroom sauce were succulent.
I would have never guessed that inside a swanky Brewery located in downtown Raleigh I would have cultural conversations, snap a few photos for happy couples and find myself completely in my element. Brewery Bhavana is rated #10 as Best-New Restaurants by Bon Appetit. I'm not sure how others feel but the reviews were spot on.
